California BIT/DOT CHP Inspection Readiness

Fleetworks provides superior assistance for passing the BIT/DOT safety inspection required by law. California Vehicle Code Section 34501.12 requires any person operating certain trucks and trailers to pass the BIT/ inspection with CHP every two years. We have been assisting our customers pass the BIT/DOT inspection for more than 30 years.

The BIT inspection allows you to operate in CA while it also meets the requirements for the Federal DOT inspection (49 C.F.R PART 396), which allows you then to operate your vehicle anywhere in the country.

We help you obtain your BIT/DOT inspection paperwork every two years. We prepare the vehicle for the BIT/Dot inspection with CHP and provide you with legal paperwork that is valid for your truck or trailer to safely be operated throughout California.

Fleetworks handles the BIT/DOT inspection by following a strict list of guidelines provided by the CHP and Federal Regulations. During the inspection, the following items are looked at:

  • Tires and wheels
  • Fuel system
  • Suspension
  • Brake adjustments
  • Brake safety, systems, components and leaks
  • Exhaust system
  • Vehicle connecting devices such as: pintle hooks, fifth wheels, kingpins and more)
  • Inspection and repair of any possible leaks: coolant, oil or grease of any kind
  • Frame of the vehicle, including items such as: fasteners, tire clearance, slider-rail and cross members
  • Safety items such as: mirrors, seat belts, speedometer, horns and triangles
  • Lightning devices
  • Windshield wipers
  • Tread Depth is measured and recorded on the report
  • Brake lining is measured and recorded on the report
  • Unit is stickered per State and Federal regulations (49 CFR §396.21(a)
  • Report is filled out per State and Federal regulations (49 CFR §396.17(c)(2)
